Would You Do It For Free?
Category: iziSuccess

It’s a common question that’s used to measure whether or not someone is truly passionate about their job, “Would you do it for free ?”

It sounds like a reasonable question, except that most people remember that they have a mortgage, bills and other expenses so there’s invariably a part of them that responds, “No.”

Does this mean that you’re not passionate about your role?

Not necessarily.  If you want to know if your heart is in what you do, perhaps you should ask yourself these questions instead:

1. Do you dread Monday mornings, or do you get excited about the prospect of another week of exciting work?

2. Do you wake up in the middle of the night with another creative idea that you can’t wait to implement in the workplace?

3. Do you inspire those around you?

4. Do you enjoy talking about what you do with others?

5. Do you want to learn more about your industry, the pioneers in your field and how you can continue to improve in your role?

6. Do you have goals that you want to achieve that no-one else had to set for you?

7. Do you bounce into the office even when you don’t feel like it?

8. Is a bad day doing what you do still better than a good day doing something else?

9. Is there meaning and purpose in what you do?

10. On Friday afternoons, do you celebrate a week of survival or a week of significance?

11. Would you want your kids to follow in your footsteps?

Just because you want to get paid doesn’t mean that you’re not passionate about what you do.
